About Michael Becker
My name is Michael Becker, and I am running for County Court Judge.
Let me take a few moments to tell you how duty brought me here.
I grew up thinking service to others is part of life. My mother, Judy Becker, teaches math at Santa Fe College. My father, Les Becker, was in the Navy for 20 years. Both of my grandfathers served in the Army during World War II.
While I was going to college at UF, I felt that something was missing, that I should be doing more with my life. I joined the Marine Corps Reserves because I wanted to serve my country. I took an oath to defend the Constitution of the United States. I served in the Marine Corps Reserves for six years.
After returning to UF, I received a BA degree in Economics. I then enrolled in UF’s College of Law and graduated with a JD. I became a prosecutor because I believed that prosecutors were the lawyers who could do the most to protect our society.
I have been a prosecutor with the State Attorney’s Office for over 10 years, and I have prosecuted thousands of cases. For the past three years, my main duty has been to keep sexually violent predators away from children. The Florida law which keeps sexually violent predators in secure treatment was originally named after Jimmy Ryce.
I’m told that the last time a sitting Judge was challenged in Alachua County was 18 years ago. I didn’t get in this race because it would be easy; I entered this race knowing that it would be difficult to challenge the establishment.
I entered this race because duty required me to give the people of Alachua County a choice.
I ask for your vote on August 24th.

Michael has been protecting the community and country for over 16 years as a Marine and as a prosecutor.
